IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE...

Once upon a time, political pundits predicted the outcome of the United States Presidential election; a prediction which the following morning proved itself to be WRONG...

Once upon a time [like yesterday], the people "in the know" at KMOV's HS Game Time.com found they had made an error that was similar in nature when they underestimated the drive of the CBC Cadets. They are probably right this minute reconsidering their hasty verdict regarding the Prep Football Power Rankings!!

There are many theories for why things such as this occur.

Perhaps it has something to do with this:

(Push play arrow to play video!)

Surely THESE GUYS must take at least some of the responsibility for how things turned out.

But mostly, the stunning defeat of the Spartans of Hazelwood East that has left the HS Game Time rankings in a state of total chaos falls upon the shoulders of a group of well-conditioned, finely tuned athletes with brawn, brains, and the will to show'em all just what it means to be a CBC VARSITY FOOTBALL CADET. In case you didn't know, the fault and all the glory for what took place today rests with THESE GUYS RIGHT HERE! The 2007 CBC Varsity Football Cadets!

Once again we find ourselves on a thrill ride that promises the excitement we have waited for since the 2006 football season ended at the Edward Jones Dome! If today's game is any indication, this season will be well worth the wait. So though we have said it before, we find ourselves saying it once again...

Congratulations and Thank You Varsity Cadets!

Your actions today have created a very
AND THE REST OF US ARE VERY HAPPY TOO!

Stay tuned for game stats and the week's most improved player as soon as that information is made available from the coaching staff! Don't forget to leave a message on the Cadet Message Board to let the team or your favorite Cadet know how incredible today's game or their role in it was!!!

"Everybody's Number One!"

That is what the West County Journal proclaimed the 2007 CBC Varsity Football Cadets in this article. What does it mean to be Everybody's Number One? In the simplest terms, it means CBC is THE TEAM everybody wants to beat.

What else is the West County Journal saying about our Cadets? Read on....

-At 5-foot-10, 195 pounds, Simmons is bigger, stronger and faster and is St. Louis' leading returning rusher.

-The Cadets offensive line is big, talented, and experienced. Seniors Matt Happe (6-2, 225), Adam Ryan (6-2, 235) and Tim Massey (5-11, 250) will line up at center, left tackle, and right tackle, respectively. Senior Ryan Jenkins (6-2, 270) is in at right guard and the left guard position is still up for grabs.

-At quarterback will be either senior Steve Batliner (5-11, 170) or senior Jack Swoboda (5-9, 160). Batliner looks to be a little bit better of a thrower, while Swoboda is the better scrambler. The two of them have combined for two pass attempts last season.

-At wide receiver, senior Kyle Martin (6-0, 160) returns. Martin should be a top threat, as he caught 25 passes last year for 478 yards and four touchdowns last season. Another wide out will be senior Ben Warning (5-9, 175). At tight end will be senior Zach Schmitz (6-0, 205) with junior Steve Coleman (6-2, 230) also splitting time.

-At fullback, sophomore Derek Rallo (5-10, 205) has been called into action.

-Keying the defense will be Swoboda in the secondary and senior linebacker Zach Schmitz (6-0, 205).

-Jenkins, Ryan and Massey will be key figures on defensive front.

-Figuring in with the linebackers and defensive backs are Martin, Warning, Swoboda and senior Kelvin Haywood (6-0, 160).

-At kicker is strong-legged sophomore Cody Barklage and punting will be Coleman.

-Look for Simmons, Swoboda, Martin, and Haywood to return kicks.

Great Press Cadets! Now Show 'em What You're Made Of!!!

What's Up As We Head Into Our Season Opener....

Re: NEW BLOG MESSAGE BOARD FUNCTIONALITY

Just learned today about some additional functionality in the Cadet Spirit Message Board!

As a visitor, you can register yourself on the message board by creating a simple profile. This can be accomplished by clicking the profile link and following the directions to become a registered message board user [this IS NOT necessary to simply leave messages]. Why register then? you might ask. Here's why...

Once you become a registered user of the message board, when you are viewing the blog, if you click on the "# online" hyperlink found in the lower left side of the message board, it will inform you of how many other people are online and viewing the blog at that particular time. Though it will not tell you who is online, by clicking the profile link and logging in, you can then initiate a "chat session" of sorts with other registered users who are currently online AND logged-in, and thereby be able to communicate with other viewers in "real time". Once you begin to exchange messages, the individual's registered online user name will appear attached to their messages. This might be fun following the games, and could also be used to discuss ideas or suggestions posted to the message board (i.e. Rich Hartbeck's suggestion about Pep Rallies).

If for some reason you try this and it does not work, simply send an email to Sharon Jenkins by clicking her name in the Cadet Spirit Committee list to the right, and she can get you registered to use the message board's additional functionality. Also, if inappropriate messages are posted, please notify Sharon Jenkins and she will delete them as soon as possible once they have been brought to her attention.

Re: VARSITY ROSTER

Recent additions to the Varsity Roster have rendered the roster currently posted on this blog incomplete. An updated roster containing the names of all Varsity Cadets along with their pertinent information will be posted as soon as the information is made available from the Varsity Coaches.

Re: TEAM DINNER

This week's varsity team dinner will take place on Friday instead of Thursday to accommodate the season opener against Hazelwood East occurring on Saturday. All remaining Team Dinners will occur on Thursday evening prior to the games which are all on Friday. Parents who signed up to assist with set-up, serving, and clean-up for this week's Team Dinner should plan to meet at CBC Ross Hall on Friday between 3:30pm - 4:00pm. Didn't sign up but want to be involved, show up anyway....the more the merrier, many hands make light work, etc., etc.

Re: VARSITY FOOTBALL FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Many of the families in attendance at last week's Parents' Football Kick-Off Party made their family support contribution that evening. To those families, "a HUGE THANK YOU", as your support is responsible for supplying this week's Team Dinner as well as the Gatorade and Water that will be critical to our Cadets on the field on Saturday as they face the Spartans. To those families who have yet to submit their contributions, please do so A.S.A.P. as having the funds available to support our team activities will make the season that much better. Contributions can be mailed to Beth Schmitz or Kathy Happe (for those of you using a previous year's Buzz Book, they are the mothers of Zach Schmitz and Matt Happe). Also, in the interest of time, as many of you will probably be attending the season opener this Saturday, you can also make your contributions during the game to Beth or Kathy as they will both be in attendance. Cash or checks made out to CBC Football are acceptable. Thank you in advance for your support, our Cadets and Coaches appreciate it more than you know!

Re: SEASON OPENER

I know we are all READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL, and this Saturday, we're finally gonna get it! So please break out your purple and gold CBC MOM OR DAD sweatshirt or T-shirt, paint your face purple and/or gold, or dye your mohawk...whatever you do to show your Cadet Spirit, JUST DO IT!!!! Keep in mind that roving photographers will be doing their best to photograph CADET SPIRIT PERSONIFIED. Also, if any of you find that you have captured CADET SPIRIT IN THE FLESH, [and I don't necessarily mean that literally ;], please don't hesitate to forward it to Sharon Jenkins by clicking her name in the list to the right. All photographs will be considered for publication on this blog as the week's CADET FAN-TASTIC FAN OF THE WEEK!! Watch out, it could be you....

Whatever happens, let's plan to show the Hazelwood East Spartans, that WE ARE THE CBC CADETS, and this most certainly ain't [yeah, I said ain't] Athens; meaning we will NOT fall at their feet!
LET'S GO CADETS!!!

There's No Stopping Us Now!

Its official...
The 2007 CBC Varsity Football season has been KICKED-OFF!!

Last Saturday evening the parents and coaches of the Varsity CBC Cadets got together to hammer out the final details of what promises to be the most spirit-filled season to date. The parents' season kick-off party was held at the beautiful home of Paul and Beth Schmitz who are the parents of senior cadet Zach Schmitz. The festive atmosphere was enhanced by great food and refreshing libations which seemed to be enjoyed by all in attendance. Surely all who attended would concur with the assessment that our hosts the Schmitz's not only provided a beautiful venue for our party, but one that was warm, welcoming, and completely inviting. Many thanks to the Schmitz's for so graciously sharing their home with us. Also, a big round of applause to all the Moms who provided such a wonderful spread of creative, imaginative, and palate satisfying appetizers and desserts!

Cadet Spirit personified, a.k.a. Ann Luberda provided an excitement filled overview of the plans the Cadet Spirit Planning Committee has developed to date for the upcoming season and encouraged everyone to become involved. Information regarding the events and activities planned for the season (i.e. Thursday Team Dinners, Friday Pre-game Meals, Tailgates, etc.) as well as the planned budget and contributions necessary to offset the costs of these activities was shared with all attendees. All parents of Varsity Cadets who were unable to attend the kick-off party will be sent the letter that was distributed during the party that contains all of the specific information that was shared at the meeting. For reasons of safety, no address information will be placed on the blog, but if you need an address to which to send your contribution, please click on the names of either Kathy Happe or Beth Schmitz in the Cadet Spirit Committee list in the right margin and send them an email requesting their mailing information.

The kick-off party was also a great way for Varsity Cadet parents to simply meet each other and avoid that unpleasant sensation of arriving at the games only to find yourself sitting in the middle of a group of people who are completely unknown to you or worse even, rooting for the opposing team. Throughout the evening, the following comment was voiced over and over again:

"This is great! Now I will at least recognize people from CBC when I get to the games!!"

That was one of the goals of the party; bringing us all together as a united front in support of our Cadets. To that end, and since we only have four home games this season, please look for the CBC parents to be sitting together as a group at all games [both home and away] and know you are INVITED to join us. We will be easily identified by all the pom pons, Moms in "Jersey T-shirts", and at least two Moms [A & S.....as if you didn't know who you are] who tend to be kinda vocal! :)

This Saturday's game against Hazelwood East is especially critical in terms of showing our CBC Spirit and pride as it was the only game we lost last season. Additonally, we are playing on their home turf and if you have never experienced it before, believe me when I say the Hazelwood East fan base is fiercely spirited. So please come out and plan to show your spirited support for our own Cadets as they go out and prove that last year was no fluke!!!!
LET'S GO CADETS!!

(PS - Don't forget to leave a message for the team or a specific Cadet or Coach in the Cadet Message Board to the right!)
